Tirol, Austria seems to be where it’s at in Autumn with the multiple high glaciers making perfect pre-season training facilities for ski and snowboard athletes.
I joined the P.S.C International Snowboard Team out in Pitztal for the first snowboardcross camp of the season. This included myself, my coach Simon Whyte, team mate Ellie from Les Gets, Max Thidling from Sweden and new addition, Murray Koller from Scotland!
It’s snowed loads the first week so we got plenty of pow turns in, whilst waiting for the boardercross track to be built. We found a good little take off near the piste with a powder landing, which was perfect for practising some spins. I landed a big frontside 360, which felt soooo nice. We also took the race boards out for a carve too!
By the time the boardercross track was ready to be used, my body was warmed up and I felt super comfortable on both boards, which made for a good solid base for more intense training on track. We focused on the starts as this is usually the most technical part of a boardercross course requiring fast reaction time and rapid leg movement. The start is key to a good race. It was also the perfect set up for training starts so we decided to make the most of that = start, hike, repeat. We did 4 days in a row of quality start training in perfect conditions: blue skies and new snow.
